Edward Jarrett's Obituary
Edward Jarrett, 94, of Kingston, Utah, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born on January 17, 1924 to Sam and Regina in New York. He spoke fondly of enjoying dancing while growing up in the Bronx. He was drafted at 18 years of age in the army and served in Panama during WWII. He was an expert marksman while serving and he retired from the military as a Second Lieutenant . He attended the University of Miami and graduated with a degree in Geology. His education and employment took him to the oilfields of Texas and Montana and ultimately to Escalante, Utah where in 1954 he met the love of his life, Phyllis Porter. They were married on June 11th, 1954. A year later, he moved to Salt Lake City to raise his family of four strong willed, independent children, of whom he was very proud. For years he worked at the FAIM furniture store in Salt Lake and in 1961 he started traveling the inter-mountain west as a mfg representative. He made many friends along the way and joined the International Pot and Kettle Club, an association of professional salesmen. He retired in 1986 and in 1991, he and Phyllis, moved to Kingston, Utah where he could pursue his love of rock hunting, gardening and fishing in the great outdoors. Ed always loved to share his knowledge of rocks and fly fishing and enjoyed speaking to the students of the Piute Co schools. When he went outside, he usually had his rock hammer in hand while exploring every wash and every hill he climbed. He always had a witty remark, or a joke in his wallet to tell anyone he encountered. Only the truly lucky could enjoy seeing his classic raised eye brow and eye roll when he had a thought he kept to himself. There is a plaque in Ed's office that reads, “The best thing a father can do for his kids is to love their mother.” He followed this thought every day of their lives together. Ed was also privileged and humbled to be able to participate in the Utah Honor Flight to Washington DC with members of his family to see the memorial honoring his service. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Murray. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis, his four children Gina (Scott) Riggs, Alan (Val) Jarrett, Ross (Terri) Jarrett and Jeri (Bill) Liddle, six grand children, Rhianna (Derk), Travis (Lissa), Kyle, Tyler, Will and Wes, and his two great-grandchildren, Hattie and Elliott. In-lieu of flowers, please donate to the Utah Honor Flight in Ed's name at: https://www.utahhonorflight.org/donate/
Ed will be cremated and services will be announced at a future date.
