Edward Garth Labrum's Obituary
Garth, as he was known by his family, was born April 8,1930 in Hailey, Idaho to Vern J. Labrum and Arlis Z. Thomander. He passed away at the age of 95 on one of his favorite holidays, July 4, 2025, in American Fork, Utah.
He was an only child but spent many happy days with his cousins, who he regarded as his brother and sister. He spent his early years on the family farm in Sandy, Utah. When he was old enough, around 10 he spent the summer herding a few cows, by himself, up the little Cottonwood Canyon. Sometimes he would spend the night with them because it was cooler in the canyon during the hot summer days.
The family later moved to Bell Gardens, Calif., where they could be closer to family. The family lived in a trailer park and it was here that he met Glenda Jean Leonard and her family. It was the time of the Korean War. He did not want to be drafted so he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was an A & E mechanic, which meant he was an airplane electrician. He was sent to Guam and worked on the planes during the war. When he came home he proposed to Glenda and they were married in the Wee Kirk of the Heather chapel, in Las Vegas, NV. On March 21, 1959 they were sealed together in the Los Angeles Temple, along with their children, for time and all eternity. They had two children, Kristen Diane (Labrum) Moore was born on Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb. and Kenneth Vern Labrum was born in Maywood Hospital, Maywood, Ca.
Garth liked to keep busy. After he was discharged from the Air Force, he got his pilots license. It was one of his favorite things to do with his family by taking them flying. Other hobbies include, panning for gold, fixing up cars, traveling, waterskiing and snowmobiling. He also held many jobs, including, milkman, dump truck driver, car salesman, and worked for the California Department of Transportation in Truckee. He also owned and drove an 18 wheel tractor/trailer for Allied Van Lines, with Glenda. They then sold their home in Truckee. When he retired, they moved into their home in American Fork, Utah to be close to their children and grandchildren.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served faithfully as a ward clerk, Branch counselor, Stake Missionary and Primary teacher. He enjoyed being with his family and extended family and liked to tease them all. The great grandchildren enjoyed grandpa because he would hand out candy to them.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda, son, Kenneth, daughter, Kristen & Dennis Moore(son-in-law),
Four Grandchildren, Jared (Shaleen) Moore, Daniel Moore, Jessica Brown (Adam), Angela Evans (Neil)
Twelve Great Grandchildren, oldest to youngest, Mayia, Mackenzie, Samuel, Lillian, Ashlynn, Zoie, Thaiya, Rosalynn, Sibyl, Carter and Killion.
Garth was welcomed to his heavenly home by his parents, Vern J. Labrum and Arlis Z. (Thomander) Labrum and great grandson, Jared Todd, JT Moore.
