Elaine Marie Gale Smith's Obituary
Elaine Marie Gale Smith, age 83, of Provo Utah died on November 22, 2025. She was born in Provo, Utah on October 7, 1942, to Lloyd Richard Gale and Cleopatra Keele Gale. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Mark Artell Smith, her parents, her sister Virginia Ann Hardinger, her sister Patra Louise Barber, and her brother Richard Lloyd Gale.
Elaine graduated from Provo High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Brigham Young University. She continued her studies at BYU, receiving a master’s degree in Library Science. Elaine was a dedicated teacher, serving in Fountain Green, Utah and Duchesne, Utah and later in the Provo School District at Provo High School and Grandview Elementary.
In 1980, Elaine served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bolivia. Later, she and her husband, Mark, served together on missions in the West Indies and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Elaine and Mark were married and sealed in the Jordan River Temple June 5, 1992.
Elaine’s childhood was filled with love and family. She had a passion for music, reading, needlework, sewing, quilting, and sports. Elaine was blessed with a green thumb and had wonderful gardens and canned everything she grew throughout most of her life. Her life was marked by faith, service, and devotion to her family and community.
Elaine will be remembered for her kindness, her love of learning, and her unwavering dedication to the gospel of Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by her brother and sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
The repose will be from 10:30 am – 11:00 am Friday November 28, 2025 at Premier Funeral Services 1160 North 1200 West Orem, Utah. Internment will be at Provo City Cemetery on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 3:00 pm
