Eldon John Ickes, 83, passed away peacefully of natural causes Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Legacy House Assisted Living in South Ogden, UT. Eldon was a very loving father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed. Eld Read Obituary

I met Eldon in Billings, MT back in the early 70’s, we became friends and hunting camping partners. We both were avid gun collectors. We spent considerable amount of time hunting and shooting. Eldon was a very positive mentor for me. We enjoyed our camping and hunting time together. I remember when Julie rented their home out to a movie company and they moved into an apartment for several months. Unfortunately, I moved to WY and eventually Eldon moved back to SD. Sadly, we lost contact with each other. I will forever remember our good times together. Rest in Peace my friend.
In 1977 Eldon hired me on the CETA program to work for him in the Engineering Dept. of the City of Billings, MT. For the next 5 years he taught me much about Civil Engineering and it gave me a career. He was a great teacher and friend. I was a guest at his home many times. We played guitars together and he taught me about guns, mostly Colts single actions and lever action rifles of which he had a great collection. When my mother died suddenly he helped me fly home for the funeral. I lost touch when I moved from Billings in 1983, but I never forgot the knowledge he imparted to me as it helped feed my family over the decades. Rest in peace Eldon.
