Eleanor Bernice Waldhouse
1933 - 2022
Eleanor Bernice Waldhouse passed away peacefully on January 9, 2022, at Alta Vista Senior Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Eleanor was born in Albany, CA, the youngest child of Erick Rudolph Waldhouse and Lydia Maria Magdalena Hilgendorff. Eleanor and her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah when she was 2 years of age. Eleanor graduated from South High School and attended BYU and University of Utah. During this time Eleanor’s mother passed away in 1954. Eleanor was set apart as a missionary of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on August 23, 1957, and she fulfilled a mission in the East German Mission. Eleanor returned to Salt Lake City and moved to California in 1960. Eleanor was employed at McDonald Douglas Corporation from September 1963 to December 1993, and Eleanor obtained a bachelor’s degree from California State University-Northridge in 1970.
Eleanor was always inviting relatives to visit her in Anaheim, CA, and she would take them to Disneyland and other theme parks and activities in Southern California. Eleanor loved to collect and display Christmas village houses with lights during Christmas, and beautifully displayed them on every flat surface and shelf in her house. Eleanor enjoyed painting and crafts, was president of her Homeowners Association for many years, and participated in 5K Runs. Eleanor took care of all the stray cats around her residence in Anaheim and had three cats of her own that she loved.
Eleanor is survived by her oldest brother and sister-in-law Harold E. and Maylene C. Waldhouse, nieces and nephews and their families: Richard E. Waldhouse, Susan W. Barber, Martin A. Waldhouse, Lynda W. Arcaris, Lavada M. Hook, and Steven H. Waldhouse. Eleanor was preceded in death by her brother Gordon R. Waldhouse and her niece Gayle W. Kefauver.
A graveside service and burial will be held 3:00 pm, Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Salt Lake City Cemetery located 4th Avenue and “N” Steet, Salt Lake City, UT.
