Elizabeth Walker Fraser's Obituary
Elizabeth Walker Crawford Divers Fraser our beloved mother, sister, nana, great-nana, sister, auntie, and friend passed away peacefully at home on Monday September 17, 2012 at the age of 93.
Elizabeth was born March 9, 1919 in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the third of five daughters born to William and Minnie Chalmers Fraser Crawford. Elizabeth received her early education at Eastbank Academy in Glasgow.
At the tender age of 18 she married John Divers in the St. James Presbyterian Church in Glasgow and they were later blessed with two daughters. Shortly after their marriage John was called up to serve in the British Army and Elizabeth took over John’s position at the “Callie” (The Caledonian Railway Company) this enabled Elizabeth to save John’s position for him upon his return from the Army. She worked hard through the difficult years of the Second World War and endured through the hardships of that war such as running to air raid shelters, rationing, black-outs, and fearing for her children’s safety. Sadly Elizabeth and John were divorced at the end of the war. As a single mother Elizabeth worked extremely hard at various occupations. Elizabeth finally went to work for the Glasgow Corporation as a double decker tram car conductor. She loved this job and was appreciated by all her passengers for her happy disposition. When the tram cars were phased out she was transferred to the bus service and was apt at running up and down the stairs of fast moving buses collecting fares. She also worked on the Glasgow Underground (subway) before retiring.
Elizabeth came to the United States in 1972 and stayed for several years working at Signetics, JC Penney and UVRMC. She then returned to Scotland and married Charles Fraser and they had many happy years together before he passed away. Elizabeth finally returned to America in 2002 to live with her daughters. Elizabeth was a beautiful singer and sang praises to her Savior every day of her life. She was an artist and had an eye for the beauties of nature. Elizabeth was loyal, forgiving and non-judgmental. She loved her family with all her heart and prayed daily for their safety and well-being. She cared for those less fortunate and always put others first. She gave to everyone freely and never expected anything in return. She loved and adored wee children. She was truly an angel here on earth.
Elizabeth was a convert to the LDS church and was an avid scripture reader. Elizabeth is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Divers Farrell (William, deceased) and Grace Divers Robertson (Don, deceased). She is also survived by 7 loving grandchildren and 11 beautiful great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday September 21, 2012 at the Cascade 3rd Ward Chapel, 1051 East 200 North, Orem, Utah. Friends and family may call at the church Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Orem City Cemetery.
