Elwood Leslie Nielsen's Obituary
Elwood Leslie Nielsen was born December 4th, 1924, in Hyrum, Utah as the oldest child of Ether Leslie Nielsen and Constance Bullock. He passed away at the age of 88 on September 24th, 2013, at home with his family by his side, fighting to stay till the very end. Elwood married Lois Linford in 1945 in the Logan Temple. They had five daughters: Lois Ann (Wynn) Price, Janet (Wade) Hatch, Marlene (Brent) Christensen, Leslie (Mark) Bergeson and Tamra. They later separated and divorced. He married Lynn Darger on June 30th, 1978, and was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 29th, 1980. They had five children: Chip (Danielle) Nielsen, Sheri Nielsen, Robyn (Dale) Pearson, Eric Nielsen and step-daughter Leda (Michelle) Saunders. Elwood had many grandchildren including Brendon Pearson, Devin Pearson, Dustin Pearson, Ariel Pearson, Reilly Nielsen and Isaac Leslie Nielsen. He is also survived by his siblings: Donna (Hoyle) Sorenson, Marian Reese, and Stanley (Peggy) Nielsen. He was preceded in death by his father Ether, mother Constance, brother Lloyd, first wife Lois, and grandson Christopher. Following in his father’s footsteps, Elwood was a farmer all of his life. When his father was killed in a farming accident in 1943, he was deferred from joining the war efforts to stay home and run the family farm. Although he remained a farmer at heart, Elwood left the family farm to make his mark in the Utah real estate market. He obtained his real estate license in 1958 and was instrumental in building the Treasure Mountain Inn in Park City. He put together the ground that became Park West Ski Resort, now known as The Canyons Ski Resort. He developed Park West Village, Aires and Hearthstone subdivisions in Park City. He was also a general contractor and built many homes and apartments in Cache Valley. Elwood had a passion for flying and was fond of airplanes. He was a pilot with over 2000 hours of flight time. At one point, he owned and operated Sky King, Inc., the fixed base operation at the Logan airport. Elwood will be greatly missed by his family. Services will be held at the LDS Church at 9750 South 2200 West, South Jordan, Utah. Viewings are Sunday, September 29th, 2013, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Monday, September 30th, 2013, from 8:45am to 9:45am, followed by the services starting at 10:00am. Elwood will be buried in the Hyrum City Cemetery at 500 East Main Street, Hyrum, Utah with grave side services starting at 2:30pm.
