Emily "Joyce" Robinson Lowry's Obituary
Emily “Joyce” Robinson Lowry returned to her Heavenly Home on August 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born March 9, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Dr. Thomas Robinson and Virginia Wright Robinson.
Joyce grew up in Salt Lake City with 9 other siblings, 5 boys and 5 girls. She was the 4th oldest and 3rd daughter. She had many fond memories of growing up with her siblings with whom she remained extremely close throughout her life. As a child, Joyce was a gifted public speaker and loved putting on plays. She had a fierce sense of humor and could make everyone laugh. As she got older, Joyce worked for her father in his medical practice, usually without payment. She learned many things from him and had a great respect for both him and the work he did. She attended East High School where she dated and fell in love with her eternal companion, James Lowry. They were married shortly after high school in the Salt Lake Temple on March 17, 1952. They treasured their lives together and raised 6 children.
Joyce and Jim owned small businesses including a women’s retail clothing store and a gift store and worked together throughout most of their marriage. Joyce spent much of her marriage taking loving care of her husband after he suffered from polio in their early lives together. They spent their vacations with their family either going camping or on trips to Disneyland or activities the children would enjoy, including their annual trip to Fish Lake. Joyce had many close friends who were friends for life. She had an amazing gift of talking to any stranger and leaving with a new friend. She had a heart of gold and was always seeking out people in need or those who were alone to befriend them and help improve their lives. It was important to her that everyone felt included. Joyce always loved parties, getting together with people, and organizing activities, holidays, meals, and surprises.
Joyce was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held various callings revolving around teaching and music. She had a strong testimony of eternal families being sealed through the ordinances of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She had a strong testimony of her Savior.
Joyce’s greatest love was her family, both immediate and extended. She put most of her effort into making sure that their needs were met and they felt loved and that each of them was needed. Her infectious laugh and sense of humor and kindness will be missed by all who knew her.
