Erla Mae Call Knudsen
1932 - 2017
Erla Mae Call Knudsen passed away surrounded by family August 12th 2017. She was born to Joseph Clarence Call & Myrtle Elizabeth Eliason Call in Bancroft, Idaho on November 16th 1932.
Erla attended Brigham Young University while working part-time for a CPA firm and the AFROTC. In 1952, she went to Washington and worked as a secretary for the FBI. In 1953, she moved to San Francisco, working several different jobs, including a dance instructor and model. Shortly after her first daughter Debra was born, she returned back to Provo. Erla accepted a secretarial position at US Steel Applied Research Laboratory, and was there until the lab closed in 1967. During this time, she completed her schooling and graduated from BYU with a BA in Business Administration. She then married Gordon Knudsen on June 19th 1961. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple. A few years after their marriage, their second daughter MiChel was born. Several years later, Erla decided to enroll in a belly dancing class; shortly after that decision came an unexpected blessing named Jonathan.
Erla was a faithful member of the LDS church, and played the piano and the organ for 76 years in various capacities. She had a passion for genealogy, and devoted much of her life to studying her ancestors. Erla had a taste for chocolate; dark chocolate and BYU chocolate covered cinnamon bears were some of her favorite treats. She had a great love of reading, and also had a beloved collection of stuffed animals. Erla was fascinated with Egyptian culture and décor. She had a love of jewelry as well.
Erla was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and late husband Gordon. She is survived her children; Debra [Marlin] Yates, MiChel [Jesse] Walton, and Jonathan. She is also survived by her siblings Melvin Call, Clarence Call, and Myrtle Cook, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express sincerest gratitude for the support they have received in the loss of their loved one.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, August 18th 2017 at the Grandview 14th Ward, 1122 Grand Avenue Provo, Utah with a viewing prior to services from 9:45 to 10:45 am. Interment will occur at the Provo City Cemetery.
