Ernie was such a great guy. What a great softball player he was. I loved playing softball with him. “How are you young man?” is what he always asked with a hug. He was so kind and I will miss him. I love you Ernie!

My big brother was there for me since 1969 when I was born. He filled in for our dad when he was indisposed. Attending my father and son dinners for school. Forcing me to go to church with him. He was the family trail blazer in all sports we grew up playing over the line, football basketball. tennis And of course softball. Floated down the mill creek river.when I was 7 years old our parent sent 3 of us to our brother Fred’s house in Albuquerque for the summer. I no longer wanted to stay. Ernie came to get me on his motorcycle and brought me back home. He had a bungie cord me to the back rest so if I fell asleep I wouldn’t fall off.He used to wrestle all of us and put us in submission holds until we told him he was the greatest! For years we fished and hunted together, we always obtained permits for Christmas tree hunting in the late 80’s we played softball with and against each other for years. We traveled to Hawaii for a vacation. He was a brother that dropped anything to come to my aid of I needed him. We continued to talk 2-3 times a week, meet for breakfast. This is only a handful of thousands of memories I have of my big brother Ernie. He was truly the greatest! I lone you big brother!!
My dearest friend and brother, Dundee — Ernest son of an immigrant from Jalisco and a mother from California.
When I heard of your passing, I cried harder than I ever have. As I sat there remembering our childhood, so many moments came flooding back. We always had each other’s backs. I remember the times one of us would distract Mom while the other climbed on the stove to grab the treats she hid from us. And of course, the times we took turns hiding Dad’s bottle.
Those were the days that built a lifetime of memories.
I loved watching you wrestle in school. All the girls wanted to be your wrestling advocate—decorating your locker and bringing you treats. You carried yourself with confidence and heart. To many people, you were like Salt Lake City’s own John Travolta at the Main Event in Murray.
There was also a time when Ernie lived with me, and that will always be a blessing. We leaned on each other through some hard times, and that only made our bond stronger.
Thank you, Ernest, for being not just a friend, but the big brother I was blessed to have in my life. I will always cherish the memories we made together.
Rest in peace, Dundee. You will always be part of my story.

I had the honor of getting to call Ernie my surrogate grandpa for about 10 years. Celeste has been my best friend since high school and long after. I lived with Ernie and Diana for about year around 2018 during a very formative time in my life and they both accepted me with open arms and as much love as they could give. Both Ernie and Diana helped me through the loss of my own grandma and I will never be able to thank them enough. Papa was always there with advice, a soft ball to throw at you and some kind of joke about your appearance first thing in the morning. He loved a 3 am secret nacho run and a sprite from sev any time he heard us awake. He was an amazing friend, grandparent, parent, coach and player. He will be missed and I want to thank him and Diana for the time I got to spend with them. I love you both dearly.

Ernie was a little piece of sunshine. I will always remember the way he greeted me when I saw him at the ballfield with a "Hello, young lady!". Ernie was always very kind to me and my kids. His smile will be missed tremendously!
Words cannot even express the grief I am feeling at this moment. On February 23rd, 2026, I lost the love of my life Ernie Reyes. He was not only my Husband, but he was my best friend, my travel buddy, my constant companion, my protector, and my soul mate. We had so many adventures together throughout the years to remember, and I will be eternally grateful for that. He left a legacy for the people he loved, that was huge! He was the most devoted person I know, and he was loved by so many people. I will cherish every moment we had together, and I will love him forever! 💗
I've known Ernie since I was nine years old and we were going to lincoln elementary. We both went to Granite Park Junior High and then to Granite High. We were both on the wrestling team and Ernie was our 110 lb. lightweight, and years later after lifting weights he became "The HULK!"
Then came the softball years. He played with my Pro Gardeners team for years. With his help , we became one of the best teams in the state. We traveled to many national tournaments with Ernie leading the way.
He was a terrific friend to me and my kids. I am so proud to have known him and to have him be in my life. I will always remember and love Ernie.
See you soon bud!
Love, Mike Holtkamp & Family
