Ernesto Esteban Montanares Torres' Obituary
Ernesto Esteban Montanares Torres, 75, passed away surrounded by family on August 19, 2025, in Murray, Utah. Born on July 26, 1950, in Penco, Chile, Ernesto lived a life marked by devotion—to his faith, his family, and the many people he served throughout his years.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ernesto dedicated himself to missionary work from a young age and continued that service until his final day. His commitment to sharing his beliefs and helping others was a defining part of his life. He found great joy in studying family history and offering service wherever it was needed.
Beyond his spiritual devotion and love for family, Ernesto had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. He loved playing soccer, being outdoors, swimming, drawing, writing and listening to classical music. Having lived near the coast in Chile and Norway, the ocean held a special place in his heart—and he delighted in cooking seafood dishes. He was a talented musician and played several instruments with passion and joy.
Ernesto’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, strength, generous service, and heartfelt connection. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of kindness in the world he leaves behind.
His legacy lives on in every life he touched.
Ernesto is lovingly remembered by his wife, Margarita Donoso; their children Lucely, Mauricio, Ernesto (Amanda), Felipe (Sarah), Jan (Sierra), Margrethe (Kirby), and Kathrine (Tyler); and fifteen grandchildren—with number sixteen soon to arrive. He also leaves behind brothers- and sisters-in-law who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Maria, and his sister Jemina.
