Eugene Marshall Markland's Obituary
Eugene Marshall Markland, 81, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025. Following a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Gene lived a life marked by service, dedication, and quiet strength. Born on April 29, 1943, in Casper, Wyoming, Gene was the son of Forrest Juell Markland and Ruby Pearl Collins.
He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1961 and soon after answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. From 1961 to 1965, he served with distinction and honor. During his time at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, he received two letters of commendation from the admiral in charge for acts of bravery—an early testament to his courage and integrity. Following his military service, Gene pursued higher education at Brigham Young University and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science. That same commitment to learning and growth would carry through every aspect of his life.
On January 21, 1966, after an engagement of eighteen months, Gene married Julie Ann Williams in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their union was one of deep faith and enduring love—a partnership that spanned nearly six decades. Gene dedicated over fifty years to his profession as a mechanic. His hands were skilled not only in repairing engines but also in building a life grounded in hard work and reliability. Those who knew him admired his intelligence and quick wit; he had a sharp mind that could solve problems with both logic and humor. Always ready to lend a hand or share a clever remark, Gene’s presence brought comfort and laughter to many.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, Gene found strength and purpose in his beliefs. His faith guided him through times of joy and sorrow alike.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife Julie; their children David Markland (Denese); Pamela Vacher; and Joan Marzo; brothers Stanley Markland; Philip Markland; and Bruce Markland; twelve grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Forrest Juell Markland and Ruby Pearl Collins; son Scott Markland; sisters Elaine Haynes and Nadine Steele and grandson Dillon Muench.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the Aspen 3rd Ward chapel located at 828 W 1600 N in Orem, Utah. Funeral services will follow at the same location starting at 11:00 AM.
Gene’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched—with every engine he repaired and every act of kindness extended without hesitation. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
