Eugene Reece Powell's Obituary
Sandy, UT – Eugene Reece Powell our wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and best friend passed away at home on August 21, 2020 surrounded by his loving family after finally succumbing to cancer after 17 years.
Gene married Linda Erna Pawlowski in the Salt Lake Temple on October 28, 1960 and they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.
Gene was born in Canada and moved to Lehi with his family where he was raised. He loved his life-guard days at Saratoga, working at Hill Air Force Base, and starting his own construction company, Alpine Builders, which he worked at for over 32 years. Gene was an avid hiker and loved ascending to the top of all the peaks in the Salt Lake Valley with all of his hiking buddies. He was a ham radio operator and loved science and astrology. He was an avid reader and would read a long way into the early morning hours. Gene had a great love of life and was very friendly and kind and talked and made friends with everyone he met.
Eugene is preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers, and one sister.
His greatest pleasure in life, he had said, was being a grandpa.
Gene was grateful for everything life had given him and expressed his gratitude daily.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, his sister Larena, brother Dean and sister Ila; children Stephen R (Lenore) of Riverton, Julie (Rick) of West Jordan, Shauna (John) of Riverton and eight grandchildren, Amanda, Eric, James, Danielle, Abygail, Olivia, Alex, Lainey, and five great-grandchildren, Adrianna, Brayden, Payton, Caydo, and Beau Gene.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29th, 11:00 am at Premier Funeral Services, 67 E. 8000 So. Midvale, Utah, with a viewing prior from 10 – 11 am. Interment, Mountainview Memorial Cemetery.
