Growing up across the street from the Atkinson's, I have a lot of fond memories and deep appreciation for Evelyn. I spent countless hours in her home and was always felt welcomed. I guess you could say, she was my second mom. However, the one thing that will always stand out is how hard she worked. She would always be working in her yard, cleaning her house or taking care of the animals. There was always something that had to be cleaned and Evelyn would be on her hands and knees cleaning it. I don't believe I ever saw Evelyn sit down and relax. She always stayed busy. Every Saturday I remember Jack push mowing their lawn and Evelyn right there pulling weeds. They spent hours in their yard and you could tell. It was immaculate. I thought of her often after I was grown and gone. I would stop by from time to time but days turn into months, then before you know it, years have passed. I am saddened by her passing but I am comforted to know that she is making heaven prettier than ever. Thank you Evelyn for your example of hard work and for making our neighborhood beautiful.
