Evelyn Marie Shell's Obituary
On November 20, 2011, our family lost the most beautiful wife and mother ever. Evelyn Marie Goodsell Shell left us after a long illness. Evelyn was born to Howard Goodsell and Evelyn Yvonne McGiven Goodsell on January 9, 1935. In her early years, the family moved wherever her fathers job took them and the family settled in Bountiful, UT shortly before her father died when she was 9 years old. She was the oldest of four children and was raised with her sister Naomi, brother Richard, and youngest sister, Georjean. Mom attended Davis High School and graduated in 1954. She went on to become a licensed cosmetologist and worked in local beauty salons until she married. She married Harvey D. Shell on November 14, 1959. She then became a full time homemaker and mother of two children. Robert arrived in 1965; Gerri in 1967. When the kids were in school, she started working at various grocery stores as a “bakery lady.” She was always handy with a cookie and a smile for any child who came up to her and asked for one. She left the bakeries to be free on weekends, as the family loved to camp and travel. The family owned a mobile home in Manila, UT and many happy weekends and vacations were spent at Flaming Gorge. Evelyn is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Harvey. Her son, Robb Shell (Taylorsville, UT) who was her primary caregiver during her last 4 years of life, and her daughter, Gerri (Bruce) Barrett, (Bakersfield, CA). Also, her brother-in-law, Jim Cameron (Salt Lake City, UT), her brother Richard (Patty) Goodsell (Arivaca, AZ) and her sister, Georjean (Dan) Billingsley (Taylorsville, UT), and a multitude of friends, and, our Beagle Baby BayLeigh. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Yvonne, step-father, Lafayette George Christensen, and her beloved sister, Naomi Cameron. The family would also like to thank Harmony Hospice without whose assistance we would have not been able to care for Mom in the manner we did. A very special Thank You to Tilly, Brenda and Jamie for their invaluable and incredibly loving care and support to all of us. And, a special Thank You to her niece, Kathy, for the loving attention in her last few days. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the Taylorsville 9th Ward Chapel, 2030 West Chateau Avenue (5225 South) where a viewing will be Tuesday evening, November 29, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm and Wednesday prior to services from 9:45 to 10:45 am. Interment at the Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Road.
