Evi Anna Nielsen's Obituary
Evi Anna Nielsen, 83, of Draper, Utah, passed away on May 20, 2026 while in Spring Gardens Memory Care.
Evi was born on April 1, 1943, in Nürnberg, Germany to Christian Schwemmer and Babette Sorgowitz Schwemmer, during World War II. Following the war, her family emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1951, moving to Salt Lake City, Utah to be with other saints of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Evi graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City in 1962. She first met Warren Nielsen when visiting her aunt Dori in the Santa Monica, California area. They met at a church activity, and began a correspondence thereafter. After falling in love, Evi and Warren married in the Manti, Utah temple on March 2, 1963.
After their marriage, they lived in various locations in the Los Angeles area while Warren worked at Southern California Edison. They had six children who primarily were raised in Hacienda Heights, California. Warren passed away at a young age of 54, and after over 40 years in Southern California, Evi eventually returned to the Salt Lake area, finally settling in Draper, Utah, where she died.
Evi was an active member of the church throughout her life, and while she held many church callings, she especially loved serving with the young women and primary. She was always cheerful, with an infectious laugh, kind-hearted and understanding—taking meals and driving people to appointments and otherwise serving others in whatever way she could. She loved to sing as an alto in her ward choir. She particularly loved celebrating holidays and birthdays with many decorations and lots of food. After Warren’s death, she developed a strong connection with other women in her ward, calling themselves the Spinners Group. They played games, laughed a lot, and remained life-long friends.
Evi is survived by her six children: Tamee (Brian) Pugmire, Tracee (Doug) Arney, Todd (Heidi) Nielsen, Tanya Nielsen, Theresa Nielsen, and Troy (Courtney) Nielsen, and by her 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, her father and mother, and her brothers Helmut and Ozzie.
We want to offer a special thanks to all the staff at Spring Gardens, Draper, and Canyon Home Care & Hospice, who provided such loving care and service to Evi in her final days.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. (with a viewing at 10:00 a.m.) at Premier Funeral Services at 67 East 8000 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, with a grave dedication and burial afterward at Crescent Cemetery.
