Frederick “Joe” Joseph Peabody
1948 - 2021
Our beloved father, husband, and life-long scout, Frederick Joseph Peabody returned to his heavenly home on Friday, July 30th at the age of 72.
Joe was born in Amherst Ohio in 1948 to Carroll and Anne Peabody. He graduated high school from Borromeo Catholic Seminary, furthering his education with degrees from Kent State, Brigham Young University, and received a PhD from Iowa State University in botany. While attending BYU, he met and married Robyne Hayes in the Manti Temple. They had five children and eight grandchildren.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Carroll and Anne Peabody as well as his sons Jeremy and Nathan Peabody. He is survived by his wife Robyne, and his children Matthew (Dulce) Peabody, Jessica (Randy) Farr, and Sarah (Steven) Garelik and his beloved dogs, George and Gracie.
Joe shared his love of nature through his life-long career as a professor of biology and botany, many years of field research of endangered species, and fifty years serving in the Boy Scouts of America. One of his proudest moments was when he received the Silver Beaver award from Boy Scouts. He loved back-packing, canoeing and gardening.
Joe was baptized into the LDS Church as a young man and served as the first Branch President of the Vermillion, South Dakota branch. His quiet and loving service will always be remembered by those who were blessed to have his influence in their lives.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, August 6, 2021 at the Beehive Chapel, 952 West 1580 South, Payson, Utah where a viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45 am. Interment in the Payson City Cemetery.
