I am so saddened by the news of your loss, which I just received today. I didn't know Fred well in high school, although I was always tickled by his wry sense of humor, but I felt like I got to know him better at the class reunions that we both attended, where I learned about his family, his career changes, including his Ph.D. in psychology and academic career.

Although I had few opportunities to meet with Fred we shared numerous emails over the years. He was a great mentor to his students and I know his passion for enriching their lives. I am sorry to hear of Prof Rhodewalt's passing. He supervised my Honor's Thesis in 1980. I enjoyed working with him and still use the principles of social psychology that he taught.

We have not met many times but our condolences go out to the entire family. The Spanish Rioja from last Christmas is a particularly good memory which we will cherish. Hanne and I will be making a donation to the Psychology Department to honor his wishes.
