Gail Francis McCurdy Sr's Obituary
Gail Francis McCurdy (Sr.) passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, in Payson, Utah at the age of 95 while residing at the Payson Veterans Retirement Facility.
Gail was born on December 6, 1929, in Onterio, Oregon to Geoge McCurdy and Helen Breckon at the home of his maternal grandparents. He answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy and served as a Hospital Corpsman during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his service Gail demonstrated extraordinary courage and dedication and was awarded two Purple Hearts for being wounded during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in Korea. He retired from the Navy in 1967 with the rank of Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman.
Following his military career, Gail transitioned to civilian life He moved with his family first to Ogden, Utah and then relocated to Chula Vista, California, where he worked in insurance and pharmaceutical sales until his retirement.
Gail was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held numerous callings throughout his life. On Jun 4,1951, he married his sweetheart, Jeanette Joyce Johnson having three children, Gail F. Jr, Thomas J., and Lynette Maureen (Survived by her Husband Phillip Card after her passing in Jan 2012). Gail and Joyce built a loving home and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles California LDS Temple on May 17, 1956. After Joyce’s passing in October 2012, Gail found companionship again when he met Arleene Taylor. Her presence brought renewed joy into his life, and they were married on May 3, 2014. They were sealed on May 19, 2015 in the Jordan River Temple.
In retirement, Gail embraced adventure through travel. He loved exploring the country in his motorhome and especially cherished time spent at Flaming Gorge. His journeys were not just about destinations but delighted in meeting new friends along the way.
Gail, the last of 7 siblings, is survived by his beloved wife, Arleene; Sons: Gail Jr (with wife Dorothy) and Thomas (with wife Diane), as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters; wife Joyce; daughter Lynette Maureen (Card); granddaughter-in-law Darah Card; grandson Michael; and daughter-in-law LaVerle.
Celebration of Life services will be held Tuesday April 22 2025 at the LDS Church located at 590 N 900 West, Orem, Utah. Family and Friends may meet at the church at 10:00AM with services to follow at 10:30AM.
Gravesite interment with full Military Honors will be held at 2:30pm at the Mountain Green Cemetery, Morgan, Utah.
