Gary was born in Las Vegas, NV, he moved to Provo when he was 8. He was raised in the river bottoms and attended schools in Edgemont and graduated from Orem High School. He met the love of his life Sheila Wilkinson at the “hotspot” in 1973.They were married April 16, 1976 on “Good Friday”. They shared a beautiful life together full of adventure, trials but mostly love. Everything they did it was done together. Together they were an unforgettable team. They welcomed their first child together on the opening day of the deer hunt, Brooke was the sparkle in his eye and always daddy’s little girl. Gary loved the mountains, that is where he felt most alive. He began hunting, fishing, and rock collecting at an early age with his father. He continued to enjoy the outdoors with his family and friends throughout his life. His mountain property which became what he called his “Little Piece of Heaven” was enjoyed by many, especially by his family. Gary became known as the “Old Man of the Mountain”. Riding along with Gary on the mountain was always a treat. He knew every ridge and every road or what he thought was a road. He tracked many deer for so many, he was a natural blood hound. He had a deep love for reading and always enjoyed a good western book. Gary took after his mother in canning & we all loved his dill & mustard pickles. He always had something up his sleeve or a joke to tell to put a smile on all of our faces. Gary was a prideful man full of knowledge and wisdom that was cherished by many. A great teacher to all that would listen. He had such a warm and welcoming spirit that attracted so many. Gary made everyone feel like his favorite and would give anything to a loved one in need.
Our family would like to thank the countless caregivers at UVRMC for their help and support who assisted in caring for Gary and our family during this difficult time. We are not sure what we are going to do without our Gary, his stories, SMILE, knowledge, jokes and his unconditional LOVE for all of us. But we are sure glad for the time we had with him. He will forever live within our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held August 8, 2019 at the Big Willow Barn at the Lindon Nursery, 535 N State Street, Lindon UT. from 6-9 p.m. We would love to have family and friends come & celebrate Gary’s life with us.
