Gary was the kind of man whose presence left a lasting mark on the people around him. For me, he showed that being a man didn’t mean hardening yourself to the world—it meant having the courage to be gentle, kind, and compassionate.

He made me feel that it was not only acceptable, but honorable, to approach others with warmth and empathy. The way he carried himself and treated people helped shape the man I’ve become today. The energy, patience, and love I try to bring to everyone I meet is a reflection of the example he set.

His influence will continue to live on in the lives he touched, including mine. I’m grateful for the time I had to know him and for the lessons he shared just by being who he was. While I arrived late for the service tonight it was wonderful to hear everyone’s stories of how Gary impacted each of our lives.
My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Cousin Gary and I had so much fun when we were little. This is a photo from Easter sometime in the 1960s. Gary loved reminiscing about the fun we had as kids. And I had a great time visiting Gary and Janet and the kids in California and Utah through the years. We always had fun when they came back east for a visit. Gary loved wandering around Salem MA, enjoying family and having fun together. I love you, sweet Gary. Sending love to my dear cousins. -Carrie

Thank you for that beautiful rendition of his life. I can only endorse what is said. He was known for his laughter even when he was in pain. He was kind, forgiving and a positive influence on me as a teen. He is truly missed in this world. I will be watching on YouTube from afar.

My most abundant memories are of holiday get-togethers at Gary and Janet's house in North Hollywood. This was Janet's family home and a house I spent many weekends and holidays at when I was a child. Our eldest daughters were born a few months apart and both named Nicole/Nichole. All of the adult cousins and their children spent many joyful holidays together in that home full of hospitality. Even then, Gary was a collector of old radios and cameras. Both Janet and Gary loved everything vintage, items from the past that told stories and held meaning. One holiday, I came to find Gary in the midst of remodeling their kitchen. He was repainting the sanded kitchen cabinets with milk paint. I had never hear of milk paint, an old fashioned, non-toxic, earth pigmented paint. (before that was a thing) Gary had such a sense of humor, you can imagine all the jokes and puns he came up with.
His gentle, kind nature filled any space he was in. There was always such love in his voice when he would call Janet, "Janey".
I will be forever grateful that our families visited together in Hawaii for a couple of weeks last November. I deeply feel the loss of this wonderful man and admire the life he lived on this Earth. With much love, cousin Linda Atwater, Portland, Oregon

Gary was an amazing neighbor for about 13 years. We only would talk a few times a year but we always would enjoy our talks. We were sad when we heard they were moving and it hasn’t been the same since. We really miss our biannual talks. Every time we would think of Hawaii we would think of him and Janet having the time of their lives with their gandbabies. We are sad to hear of his passing. We have very fond memories.

We have considered Gary and Janet family for a very long time. We will miss him terribly. Getting to spend time together this year will be a memory cherished for a lifetime.
