Gary Lee Hoffman's Obituary
Gary Lee Hoffman, age 68, of West Jordan, passed from us on March 4, 2020. He was a proud Veteran, Teamster, Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle and Grandfather.
He was born November 5, 1951, to Glen and Lucille Hoffman (both deceased). He was raised in Muskegon, MI, where he learned a love of community service beginning with his membership in the Boy Scouts of America, where he became an Eagle Scout. Then he served in the Army during the Viet Nam Era. His service continued with his work with the Boy Scouts in the Tiger Cub program, and finally his efforts to serve God and his community as a chaplain. He worked as a Teamster in the trucking industry for over 20 years. Aside from his family, community, country and God, his other love was Harley-Davidson. He treasured his time with the Bikers for Christ during his membership at Calvary Chapel.
To sum up a life in so few words does not do justice to it. So let us add this: He was a humble, unassuming, good man. He loved to laugh. He was heartbreakingly proud of all members of his family. He was complex. He was reclusive but enjoyed people. He made mistakes and was quick to forgive others. He loved deeply. He tried his best to uphold the values he held dear and to instill them into his children and those around him. He wasn't rich or famous or powerful, but he was important and valued and solid. He wasn't perfect, but he was a good man and his soul was true. He will be missed. He will always be loved.
Gary is survived by his siblings Glen (Evva) Hoffman, Lue Anne (Dave) Bond and Cindy (Timothy) Alicki; his wife Jeril Ann Hoffman; his children Jennifer Hoffman, Theresa (Steve) Cook and Daniel Hoffman; his stepson Brandon Henry; and his grandchildren Trevor Cook, Colby Cook, Jacee Cook and McKayla (Benjamin) Cameron. He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Lucille Hoffman, his daughter Debra Hoffman, and his step-daughter Nicole Cameron.
A memorial will be held at Calvary Chapel at 460 Century, Murray, UT 84123 at 11 am on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, followed by a graveside service at Utah Veterans Cemetery at 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, UT 84065 at 1 pm.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity, such as the Boy Scouts of America or the Girl Scouts of America, both organizations Gary supported during his lifetime.
