Gary Burt West's Obituary
Gary Burt West
12/08/1960 ~ 1/28/2024
Gary Burt West, Father, Grandfather, Brother and friend to all, passed away in West Jordan, UT on January 28, 2024 at the age of 63 with his daughters by his side after a courageous battle with stomach cancer.
Born December 8, 1960 to his loving parents Burt and Jean West in West Valley City, UT. He was the youngest of five children and loved spending time with his siblings and shared many great memories of their Idaho camping trips. He grew up with a love of baseball and football and played both until high school. He attended Granger High school where he had many adventures and loved his rock music. He made many friendships during his years in West Valley, many of whom remained friends for life.
Gary learned the value of hard work young. He chose a career in Telecommunications where he became a master of his craft. He managed the construction of thousands of miles of fiber optic lines. His co-workers and colleagues were some of his loving lifelong friends.
In 1988 Gary met and married Rose and raised their family in West Valley. Although they later divorced he gained two wonderful step-daughters, Shannon and Staci. His first daughter Summer was born in 1989 and his second daughter Sisily was born 1991. His daughters were the light of his life. His love and adoration for his girls was seen by all that knew him.
Gary loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He would not miss an opportunity to share this love with his girls and grandchildren. He enjoyed many cherished conversations around a campfire. He loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt and the number three car. He finally achieved his dream of owning a Corvette, that thing was his baby.
He loved to surround himself with those he loved. Christmas was his favorite Holiday and he loved to decorate the house with lights. He even made his own icicle lights before they were all the hype. Good times were abundant at his pool parties and barbeques. He was an amazing cook! He was always on the move and had to be helping or taking care of something. His yard was to perfection and his garden was always lush and beautiful.
To know Gary was to know love and care. Even in his worst days his concern was for others. Whether that was delivering snacks and blankets to the homeless, helping with a home repair or bringing surprises to his kids and grandkids. His greatest concern was always that everyone was taken care of. He never wanted anyone to do things for him but was the first to jump in if someone needed something.
Gary is survived by his daughters Shannon (Blake) Taylor, Staci (Todd) Singleton, Summer (Jarrad) Neilson, Sisily (Dakota) Bowman. His Grandchildren Evan, Nevaeh, Lincoln, Nixon, Braxten, Jace, Wyatt, Cameron, Ashlyn, Georgia and Rome. Brother Denny (Jeannie) West and Sister Jan Vasquez. He is preceded in death by his Father Burt, Mother Jean, brother Shorty, and Sister Gladys.
The family would like to thank JKL Associates for all of the love and generosity they extended to Gary during his cancer battle, it made all the difference in the world. A very big thank you to his team in Dr. Nevala-Plagemann’s office and the staff at Huntsman Center, your compassion for patients is unmatched. Lastly, to Applegate Hospice for all the love and support in the final months.
To honor Gary’s wishes we will be having a “BIG PARTY” to celebrate his life. Wednesday February 7, 11:30am – 1:30pm at Glenmoor Golf Club, 9800 S. 4800 W., South Jordan, UT 84095.
