I was a Seattle friend of Gay from the time our children were toddlers. We both loved the out-of-doors and did lots of Cascade hikes. In 1993 we canoed the Missouri River from Ft. Benton to Kips’ Landing — Ft.Peck Lake, a week of magnificent scenery and very few people in that mud-August. It was a major Missouri flood year and we discovered why the Natives were called Black Feet; the muddy river shores had coal & tar that stained our feet & Texas. It was a magnificent trip and we loved the then wildness and quiet and star-filled nights. The BLM had warned us of a big rattlesnake year, but only after driving back did we run over a rattlesnake despite carefully looking each evening for them.
I lost touch with your mom after I remarried and she moved to Utah. So on this morning if April 15, 2020 when I started to look up Gay’s contact information to see how she was doing. I was shocked to learn of her death years ago.
Please know how saddened I am. Not many women were as much fun and also out-doors enthusiasts as Gay. Being outside was her soul. It was such a pleasure to do adventures with her!
