Gayel Rae Petrie's Obituary
Tuesday, April 20, 2021 Gayel Rae Petrie returned to her Heavenly Father and was reunited with her parents and siblings, as well as her daughter Ashley and grandson Ben.
Gayel was born January 12, 1941. She was the youngest child of Raymond L. Overacker and Geraldine Grover Overacker. She was born in Ilion, New York and graduated from Waterville High school in 1958. Gayel moved to Utah in 1972 where she attended and graduated from Brigham Young University’s nursing program. Gayel worked as an LPN for most of her life and the area she most loved was taking care of the new moms in Ob/gyn.
In 1991, Gayel went back to school and attended Westminster college in Salt Lake City, Utah where she got her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She proudly graduated in June of 1991.
Gayel , aka “The Yankee Lady", had may interests and adventures in her lifetime. She traveled and lived in many places from the East coast to out West.
She had a love of the Navajo nation and its people and their culture. Gayel had “gold fever". She had a claim up in Yankee Fork, Idaho, complete with lean to cabin. When her children were young, she loved to spend summers with them there panning and mining for gold.
Gayel loved and was involved in Civil war re-enactment which she did at Utah’s Camp Floyd with her son Josh.
In more recent years, Gayel had become a member of The Order of the Eastern Star.
Gayel was a faithful convert of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints. One of the things she had been the most proud of in her life, was her 2 year participation in the Church’s Hill Cumorah pagent which is held in Palmyra, New York.
Gayel is survived by her daughters: Lori Grant [Brian], Lisa Manners [Chris], Athena Jones [Tom], Israel Hemmert [Jessica], Joshua Hemmert.
Her grandchildren: Denny, Danielle, and Ryan. Jason, Taylor and Kaitlyn. Chris, Sam, and Alex. Austin, Zoey and Zariah.
Great grandchildren: Josh, Hailey and Sophia, Keyara, Annabelle and Sven.
Funeral services will be held at the Summerset Ward meeting house. 1885 Summerwood Drive , Farmington Utah
May 1st 2021 at 11:00 am.
It will be available through Zoom for out of state family members.
