Gaylynn Mauss (Jewkes)'s Obituary
Gaylynn Mauss (Jewkes) our strong courageous mother and wife, returned to her Heavenly Father after a long battle against cancer on January 21, 2025. She led a fulfilling and valiant life of love and service to her family, church and those around her.
Mom was born in Price, Utah, on May 17, 1973, to Terry Lynn and Terry Roy Jewkes.
She spent much of her early years working hard on the family farm, waking up before the sun rose at 4:30 a.m. Mom would work until the evening finishing her chores so that she could ride her favorite horse, Buckles. Mom was known throughout the town as an all-state volleyball and basketball player at Carbon High School.
Mom was on the boys' baseball team and would show them up, especially since the boys would say that a girl doesn’t belong on the baseball team. Mom was determined to prove them wrong, and she did so by being one of the best players on the team.
After her mission to Vancouver, Canada, from 1994-95, she attended Utah Valley State College where she met the man of her dreams, Ryan Mauss.
The two met in a math lab, where Mom followed him after class to be in the right place to ask Ryan for a ride home. This was the first best question that dad ever asked her.
After six romantic years, they were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 19, 2002.
After they were married, Mom worked as a dental assistant which led her to start a business helping doctors find substitutes. Thinking they were pretty funny, they named it Dr. Fillins.
In 2006, they were blessed with a handsome baby boy and soon to follow were two beautiful baby girls. Nothing was more important to her than her family.
There were few places you would find Mom happier than cheering on Tyler playing football and coaching Nikki and Sammy loudly from the stands during their softball games. Even when mom was too sick she would cheer from the car or from home on her phone. She hated to miss our games.
Mom was an expert cotton candy maker, a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enjoyed going to the temple, loved eating healthy, and talking politics. Mom sadly was diagnosed with cancer in August 2022.
Mom fought long and gallantly for two and a half years. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Ryan Jennings Mauss, and her three beautiful children Tyler Jennings, Nicole Lynn, and Samantha Grace.
She is also survived by her younger siblings and is preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made to their GoFundMe to help cover extensive medical expenses. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 27, 2025, at the Glenmoore 5th ward building at 4881 W. Cindy Lane in South Jordan.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 26, from 6 - 8 p.m. and also before services on Monday at 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Gaylynn will be buried at Elysian Burial Gardens.
Thank you Mom for everything. We love and miss you.
