George Stanley Pemberton's Obituary
George Stanley Pemberton was born in a rushing car in Tieton, Washington to Stanley Addison and Ada Velva Potter Pemberton on 28th of May, 1934. He progressed happily to his Heavenly Home at age 89 in South Jordan, UT on 1 February, 2024. George grew up working on farms and orchards, driving tractor at 5 years old and learning the skill of hard work. Growing up he learned of Jesus Christ from faithful parents and sought truth. In his 19th year, finding it in fullness, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shortly after, he prepared and served a mission to the Western Canadian Mission from 1955-57. Before serving, he met a beautiful woman, Ulene Atkinson. After many chats, letters, dates, mission and courting, they married in the Logan, Utah Temple for time and all eternity on the 9th of June, 1958. They often spoke of their abiding love for their family: Richard George (Paula Johnson), Stephen Ja (Gwendolyn McIntosh), Annett (Stephen Smith), Deborah (Todd Ross), Gaylyn (Vern Graham), Sterling Stanley, Grant Orton (Toni Osborne), Jared Jackson (Monika Stepan), Randall Paul (Marilyn Black), Velene (Chris Burke), and Nathan John (Kristy Sorensen Dean & Jenni Steed, deceased). Other family members: Denelle Robinson Deuel and Deborah Love Banks.
George pursued an education at Washington State College and received a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education and Masters of Arts in Communication from Brigham Young University. This is where he became a life-long Cougar fan. He was often watching, listening and cheering the Cougars to victory. He later went on to receive a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) at George Wythe College. He taught High School and coached in Washington until 1966, when the family moved to Salt Lake County, UT and he took a job with the Church Education System for 34 years as a Seminary & Institute teacher and Administrator. During this time he also served as a Chaplain at the Utah State Prison for 12 years. He never stopped learning or searching for truth and light. He was an avid reader and wrote down what he learned to share with others. He and Ulene served missions in Botswana (South Africa Johannesburg Mission), Samoa; to help prepare young men for mission service, and at the Riverton Utah Employment Resource Center. Throughout his life, he was called upon to give numerous talks throughout Utah and serve numerous callings in the Church. While all this blessed his life, his greatest honor and joy was being a husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, nephew, uncle and testifying of Jesus Christ.
George is survived by his brother Jack (Charlet) Pemberton and preceded in death by his wife Ulene, his parents, sister Louise (George Small), daughter-in-law, Jennifer and three grandsons. At the time of passing, George has 54 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren, and four more great-grandchildren expected soon.
