I worked at the Safeway store in Midvale while Mr. Moser was the manager there. It was the first business building that I had seen that had a door that automatically opened and closed. I was in high school and started as a bagger, but soon became a checker. I immediately sensed that our store manager was a very fine man. A couple of years later, when I was called as a missionary to South Africa, I asked Mr. Moser to be a speaker at my farewell--which he did on March 17, 1963 in the Draper First Ward. I have always had the highest respect for him, and I was privileged to visit with him for a while a few months ago. Some of the other Safeway employees that I remember from that time so long ago are Kay Comstock, Dave Feitz, Curtis Cook, Reed Riddle, "Woody," and Joe Barfus. I send my condolences to the family, and look forward to meeting some of you later this morning at the funeral.

Jan and I are so sorry we can't be there to express our love personally. We are visiting a daughter in Atlanta. Gerwas one of my favorite people of all time. I have such great respect for his integrity, hisfaithfulness to family and Duty, and his ever cheerful nature. I could never express adequately his strength as we served together in the stake presidency. May the Lord's Choice blessings be upon each member of the family, and may your faith in the Eternal promises of the temple Covenants be increased. What a joyful reunion we will all have with him one day. If Gerald doesn't qualify for a Crown of Glory , no one else need apply . Love, Allen and Jan litster.

I think one of the most telling things about Grandpa is that I don’t have one specific memory that stands out to me—instead I have a collection of “things that Grandpa is” in my heart. He wasn’t about being flashy; he cared much more about the little things that built others up and his own character while he was at it. The things that last.

While I was in high school I worked first as a bagger and then as a checker at the Safeway store on Center Street in Midvale. It was the first store that I was aware of that had a door that opened and closed automatically. Mr. Moser was the manager of the store and at the same time a good friend to all of us employees. For some people that can be an almost impossible combination, but not for Mr. Moser. He worked harder than anyone else there, and could often be seen bagging and carrying bags of groceries out to a customer's car. He was obviously a fine man and a good member of the Church. When I received a call to serve as a missionary in South Africa, I asked him to speak at my farewell--which he did at the Draper First Ward on March 17, 1963. I had a chance to renew my acquaintance with him five or six months ago at the assisted living center, and that was delightful. We reminisced about the store and some of the people who worked there at that time. A few that I remember are Curtis Cook, Reed Riddle, Kay Comstock, Dave Feitz, "Woody," and Joe Barfus. Those were pleasant, memorable days from long ago. To the family, please accept my condolences and very best wishes.

Gerald was a big part of my life as a young boy. Whether it was scouts, church, outings or being friends with his sons, it didn't matter, He was always a kind and gentle man who loved everyone. It is sad to see him go. My heart and thoughts go out the the entire Moser family.
