Gerald Richard Walk's Obituary
Gerald Richard Walk, affectionately known by those closest to him as Jerry, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Jerry, Pops and “Love” gently slipped away at home on March 31, 2025, at the age of 92. Prior to Grandpa's passing he was surrounded by and showered with generations of love and affection. Grandpa in turn told his family over and over again, "I love, love, love, love, love you!"
Jerry was born February 8, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of Clarence Joseph and June Rose Derrick Walk. He grew up in the avenues of Salt Lake City, graduating from West High School, and the University of Utah. Dad landed back on campus managing several university bookstores, and then operating several small businesses.
Gerald married the love of his life, Luahiwa Jorgen Forsythe – Grandma - in the Logan Temple on July 26, 1957. Dad was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Hawaiian Mission, and numerous other callings. He was a true believer and disciple of Jesus Christ. “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
Pops absolutely loved the great outdoors, and more than that he loved sharing that pleasure with his children and grandchildren. He hiked and hiked and hiked; and then he would ask, "hey, who’s up for a hike?" Family vacations were spent in the Natties (U.S. National Parks) which he knew very well and loved. He loved skiing, snow shoeing, mountaineering, ice skating, swimming, playing tennis, racquetball, and softball; and he was and is forever Ute Proud.
Dad always felt overwhelmingly blessed with the goodness, love, and affection of his family; 5 children, 17 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way. He is survived by his wife, children, and their spouses; Richard Keith Kamoa'e (Ka'umealani Kaneakua), Maile Ann (Carlos Garcia), Ronald Paul (Shannon Hill), Thomas David (Sally Dunn), and Michael Joseph (Michelle) and several cousins and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Jean Walk Nelson. “I love you too, drive safe.”
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Hospice Team--Rebekah, Collin, Celi, Hilda, Mike, Evert, Ernesto, Mrs. Best, Pearson, and Jody--for their compassionate care, kindness, and support during our dad's final days. Your presence brought comfort and peace, and we are deeply grateful.
