Geraldine Hancock Woodward's Obituary
Geraldine (Gerri) Hancock Woodward passed away on July 23, 2023 in Provo, Utah at the age of 80. She was born in Glendale, California on December 9, 1942. She married John L. Woodward on June 4, 1964 after meeting at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. Her parents are Wayne Hancock and Phyllis Lines.
The surviving members of John and Gerri’s family are six children: Daughter Wendy W. Hill, of Irvine, CA wife of Boyd Hill, with sons Mark, Blake and Brent, daughter Jocelyn. Son Daniel L. Woodward of Provo, Utah, and his wife Shelly with sons Daniel L Jr, Joshua, and James and daughters Coral, Crystal, and Amanda. Daniel and Shelly Woodward have 12 grandchildren. Son Whitney H. Woodward and his wife Anne live in Heber City, Utah. Daughter Hillary Woodward lives in New York, NY. Daughter Candice A. W. Hansen of Ft. Worth, Texas is the wife of Brian Hansen with their son Grey. Daughter Lindsey A. Sutton is the wife of Jasher Sutton living in Nashville, TN and Tokyo, Japan with daughters Allegra and Eliska.
As a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gerri liberally shared her talent as an organist and pianist with the church. She also served as an Ordinance Worker in the San Antonio Texas Temple.
She earned a B.S. in Elementary Education at BYU in 1964 and taught Fourth Grade in West Lafayette, Indiana from 1964 to 1967. She later taught piano for 30+ years, mostly in San Antonio, TX.
Gerri and John traveled extensively, often with his sister Sharon and her husband David Smith. They toured Canada (where they lived for 2 years), United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein, Belgium, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Slovakia, France, Hungary, Netherlands, Ecuador, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, and every State in the USA. She enjoyed playing card games and tennis and was recognized as a welcoming hostess and family chef, loved by all who knew her.
Gerri’s funeral will be on Saturday, August 5th at Grandview South Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1122 Grand Avenue, Provo, UT. 9:30 am Viewing / Visitation; 11:00 am Funeral Service (Celebration of Life); 12:00 pm Luncheon. Flowers can be sent to the address of the church. Donations in honor of Gerri can be sent to a cancer-related charity of your choice.
