Gene was a quiet man who always exuded great strength of character and kindness. I recall him at The Mark of the Quad Cities (probably at a Steamwheelers game) inviting a person to consider ordering a non-caffeinated soft drink. He was so loving and gentle that I have always remembered the intimacy and pure love of Christ personified in that teaching moment. I have admired him for a lifetime as a stalwart of the Faith and of the Church. I want to be like him when I grow up.
