Gladys Reid Snyder's Obituary
Gladys Reid Snyder
1918 ~ 2016
“I want you all to know, sons, daughters, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, how dear you all are to me. The more descendants we get, the more we understand how the Lord can love us all. It seems the more you have to divide your love, the more it multiplies.”
Gladys Reid Snyder was born April 12, 1918, to Royal Shields and Marcia Porter Reid in Preston, Idaho, and died peacefully with family by her side on May 9, 2016.
She was the third of six children. The family moved to Logan, Utah and Gladys had a great childhood there. She graduated from Logan High School in 1935 and then attended Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University).
On Sunday, February 6, 1938, Gladys married Hugh Alfred Snyder in Logan. She and Hugh moved to Salt Lake City and raised their family there. They had six children: Sharon (David) Kamerath, Clyde (Marja) Snyder, Barbara (Phil) Colton, Ronald (Christine) Snyder, Steven (Denese) Snyder, and Kenneth (Claudia) Snyder.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her five siblings, Max, Vivian, Clair, Wendell (Bill) and Royal. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Sharon, granddaughter Jeanne Marie Colton and great-granddaughter Lucy Gladys Plummer.
She trained as a secretary, became an actuarial assistant and an office manager. Later she became a partner with her husband in his insurance and pension business. She was bright and capable, and with Gladys’ help and support the business soared.
Gladys was an active member of the LDS church and served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. She was devoted to her family and made sure her children were exposed to the arts. Even after coming home from a hard day at work and fixing dinner, she made the time for reading to her children and putting them to bed.
Funeral services will be held 12 Noon, Friday, May 13th, 2016 at the LDS Union 2nd Ward at 1535 E. Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights. A viewing will be held Thursday, May 12th, from 6 to 8 pm, and Friday prior to the services from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the same location. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Humanitarian Aid or Primary Children’s Hospital.
