Glenn Albert Mecham's Obituary
Glenn Albert Mecham, 87, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away on November 2, 2023.
He was born on October 27, 1936 to Albert A. Mecham and Nellie Larsen Mecham. He was the second child in a family of five children.
He grew up in Taylorsville, a place he dearly loved. He loved sports and played softball with the young men in his ward. He was so happy when their team played in All Church ball. He was an avid Jazz basketball and BYU football fan. Glenn attended Plymouth Elementary, Valley Junior High, and graduated from Granite High School. Following his graduation Glenn served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Great Lakes mission, serving from December 1957 to December 1959. When returning home from his mission he joined the Army National Guard.
He married his sweetheart, Shawna Lyn Patterson, on March 10, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. Shortly after their marriage, he was called to active duty for the Berlin Crisis. His unit was stationed in Ft. Louis, Washington where he spent almost a year. It was after being discharged from military service that he began his plumbing career, which spanned forty years.
Together they had five beautiful children, four sons and one daughter. His happiest times were at family gatherings. He was so loved by all of his family and was the best dad and grandfather. They often talked about his genuine love for others, his sense of humor, and his example of hard work. He also had a very positive attitude and would always say, “Life is good.”
Glenn has always been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. To highlight a few, he has served as a Ward Missionary, Stake Missionary, and Service Missionary throughout the years. He also served in the Young Men's program, loving all the young men he served. He has served in three Bishoprics, serving as a counselor and also as Bishop of the YSA ward. He loved his calling as Bishop and loved all the young adults. He was very service oriented and was dedicated to serving others.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Shawna, and his children David (Diane), Brent, Bradley (Melinda), Deborah Vincent, and Brian (Jenny). He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, as well as by his sister Jolene (Frank) Welch. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
