Gloria J Bennewitz's Obituary
Gloria J. Bennewitz, 82, of Taylorsville, Utah, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026 at Summit Vista Senior Living. Gloria was born on April 14, 1943, in Peoria, Illinois, the second of five children of Wilma (Nash) and Orville Bennewitz. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Gary and Gregory Bennewitz. Surviving are her sister Janet Smith of Cordova, TN, her brother Duane (Marie) of Bellingham, WA, her sister-in-law, Juel Bennewitz of Mackinaw, Illinois, and two nieces and a nephew, Marda Kaufman (Mike), Brad Bennewitz (Kelli), and Jillian Miller (Thomas).
Gloria was a self-starter and seeker of knowledge from the start. After graduation from high school, she started a career in banking at Pekin National Bank by assisting in the opening of the new bank and subsequent branches. This gave her incredible insight into every function of the bank, which served her well in her future banking career. In the late 60’s she set her sights on new horizons, moving to Aspen, CO to start up another new bank, and eventually to San Francisco, CA to work for Wells Fargo, where she became Senior Vice-President. She thrived there because of her talents, intelligence, and genuine warmth for the people she worked with.
Gloria loved family, music, hosting family and friends, traveling, mountains, and all of God’s creation, in particular her much-loved canine companion for over sixteen years, Jean-Claud, “J.C.”
After her retirement from Wells Fargo and a move across the bay to Tiburon, CA, she later set her sights on where to live next. She chose Taylorsville, UT, (Summit Vista) because of the panoramic view of the Wasatch Mountains from her windows. She made many friends with the staff and people who lived there, who all knew her as warm and caring.
After a short hospital stay, she returned to her beautiful home under the care of hospice. She passed peacefully the next morning into the loving arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
She will always be remembered for her independent spirit, warmth, wisdom, wit and graciousness. She has left a legacy of leadership, genuineness, and compassion that will inspire her family and friends for years to come.
There will be a celebration of life March 18th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Summit Vista, 3390 West Signal Peak Drive, Taylorsville, UT 84129.
