Gordon Yorgason McIntosh's Obituary
Gordon Yorgason McIntosh, 99, of Kaysville, Utah, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025.
Gordon was born in Burlington, Wyoming, to Ira James and Florence Adella Yorgason McIntosh, on March 8, 1926. He worked hard on the farm at home and participated in music and sports while getting a stellar education. He attended the University of Wyoming after graduating from Burlington High School. He was called to the Northern States Mission in 1948 and then entered the Army in 1951 during the Korean War, later serving in the Army Reserve, eventually attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He learned to fly airplanes and helicopters there, which was the dream of his life. He went to Brigham Young University to finish his education as a music teacher but was tempted to apply as a pilot with Trans World Airlines. He received the job and loved being a pilot!
His undying love for flying was only surpassed by his love for his wife, Shirley. He met Shirley Arlene Bailey in the Logan Square Ward in Chicago, Illinois. She was a former teacher and a United Airlines flight attendant. They married in the Salt Lake City LDS temple on August 14, 1958. They had five children and lived in Chicago, Illinois; Kansas City, Missouri; Orem, Utah; and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Because of Gordon’s job, they were able to travel all over the world, which they loved. They served a mission together in Johannesburg, South Africa, as Welfare Services-Employment missionaries. He cared for Shirley tenderly when she was diagnosed with Lewy Body disease after their mission. She preceded him to heaven in 2012.
Gordon loved flying, traveling, reading, and being with family. He played the trombone, piano, harmonica, and guitar. He loved serving with the Boy Scouts for many years and was called to a branch presidency at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, for a time. He held many church callings, including branch chorister, bishopric counselor, nursery leader, Sunday School teacher, stake missionary, and temple worker.
Gordon and Shirley’s children are Bonnie Del (Stan) Jones, Kaysville, Utah; Gordon Thomas (Karen), Rowlett, Texas; Marci Ellen, Lehi, Utah; James Joseph (Brandy), Glendale, Arizona; and Rebecca Dian, Salt Lake City, Utah. They also had two foster children: Velma Jean Begay and Lenora Gia. Their grandchildren are Valerie and Travis Jones, Tyler McIntosh and Aubrie (Blake) Bufkin, Aaron James and Haley McIntosh, and Sebastian McIntosh-Biggs. Gordon was the fourth of thirteen children—Maxine Laverne (Don) Shanor, Gertrude Irene (Cliff) Vogelsberg, Byrne James (Jill) McIntosh, Eugene Legrand McIntosh, Iris McIntosh (Richard) Lunt, Robert Merlin (Carol) McIntosh, Duane Yorgason (Rita) McIntosh, Ira Udell (Kay and Myrlee) McIntosh, Donald LeRoy McIntosh, Howard Boyd (Jean) McIntosh, and Eleanor Ree (Cloyd) Bates. He is survived by his youngest brother, Howard. Gordon always said, “I don’t know what I’d do without my family!” And they don’t know what they’ll do without him.
Gordon’s family would like to thank the whole staff and community at Whisper Cove Assisted Living in Kaysville and especially Harmony, Carli, and Alyx with Atlas Home Health and Mobile Medical, for caring for Gordon so lovingly the last five years.
