Gordon LeRoy Phelps
Gordon LeRoy Phelps passed away on November 21, 2019, at the age of 87, in Farr West, Utah.
Gordon was born November 8, 1932 in Fillmore, Utah to Ward Robert Phelps and Emma Laura Day. He was the seventh in a family of ten children. He grew up in Fillmore and graduated from Millard High School in May of 1951 and later graduated from Weber State and University of Utah with degrees in accounting.
Gordon married and was sealed for time and all eternity to Louise Forster of Delta, Utah, on March 25, 1955, in the Manti Temple. Together they had four children: Gordon, Margo, Gary and Calleen. Over his 40-year career Gordon worked as an accountant and office manager for numerous industrial companies. His employment opportunities brought about frequent moves for the family, with homes in Little America and Star Valley, Wyoming; Greeley and Fort Morgan, Colorado; Idaho Falls and Blackfoot, Idaho; Gunnison and West Valley City, Utah. In retirement he lived in West Valley City, moving to Seasons Assisted Living in Farr West, Utah, in 2015 to be near his daughter Calleen.
Gordon was been a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as a Branch President, bishopric counselor, ward clerk, High Priest Group Leader and Sunday School teacher. Over the course of his life Gordon devoted significant time to temple service and genealogy work, and kept a detailed family history that will be a cherished blessing for his posterity.
A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family, he enjoyed having his family around him. He enjoyed playing games with the family, engaging in discussions on topics of the day, listening to inspirational music, and reading.
Gordon is survived by his children: Margo Palmer (Brian) of Kooskia, Idaho; Gary Phelps (Laurie), of Livermore, California; and Calleen Johnson (Michael) of Farr West, Utah. He has 16 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Tom Phelps, of Soda Springs, Idaho; Dell Phelps of Kearns, Utah; Ned Phelps of Newton, Utah; and a sister Deloris Watson of Sandy, Utah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise (Forster), and their son Gordon, by his parents Ward Robert Phelps and mother Emma Laura (Day), and by a brother Ward and sisters Anna Laura, Dean, and Lelia.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to all the professionals, in particular Holly and Jacqui and the staff at Seasons Assisted Living and to AFI Hospice, who lovingly cared for Gordon during the final three years of his life. He definitely enjoyed knowing all of you and being there with you.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Farr West Utah Poplar Stake Center located at 1745 N 2300 W, in Farr West, Utah with a viewing prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45 am.
