Dr Gregory Sims Sansom's Obituary
Dr. Gregory Sims Sansom passed away April 7, 2026 after a brief and tragic battle with Glioblastoma. He was surrounded by people that loved him dearly.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Donald Clyde Sansom and Barbara Sims, Greg grew up loving all the Wasatch Front has to offer. The mountains were his happy place; a place where he found adventure and fun. He spent every season in the mountains. In the warmer months, he could be found mountain biking, boating and hiking. As soon as the snow would fly, he would hit the ski slopes. His love language was spending time with the people he loved in the mountains. He believed life was meant to be lived fully and shared with those you love.
Greg graduated from Skyline High School. As a senior, Linda Means caught his eye as she walked across the courtyard. After graduating, he served an LDS mission in Guatemala, where he learned Spanish and the Mayan dialect, Cakchiquel. His love for the Guatemalan people and culture led him to later return and collaborate on the first Cakchiquel-Spanish-English dictionary.
Greg attended the University of Utah, where he reconnected with that girl that caught his eye at Skyline. They were married March 14, 1980. In 1982, Greg and Linda moved to Seattle where Greg continued his education at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and returned to Salt Lake to practice dentistry.
Greg and Linda created a beautiful family together. He is survived by Linda, their four children: Bryan, Christi (Nate Rainwater), Kyle (Paulina Dowdle) and Michelle (Blake Simkins) and his 13 treasured grandchildren. In his final days, he was surrounded by the same love he spent a lifetime giving. His passing leaves a void in their hearts but his example will forever guide them. He will never be forgotten.
