Harlow Frank Cheney Jr's Obituary
Harlow Frank Cheney, Jr. was born May 18, 1950, to Harlow Frank Cheney, Sr. and LaRue Heiner Cheney in Burley, ID. He passed away on July 4, 2023, due to complications from kidney failure. Frank attended local Heyburn and Rupert elementary and high schools, then attended Ricks College, BYU, and SLCC before getting it right! Frank took many art classes at Ricks, and many pieces of artwork are hanging in the family home. At BYU, he took dance classes, brought his knowledge back to the Heyburn youth groups, and choreographed a few shows there. He also starred in a ‘Hello Dolly’ production at the Bountiful Regional Center during his BYU days, utilizing his talents in dance, acting, and singing. He worked in construction with his father, Harlow, at Cheney Construction. He then worked construction with his cousins at Cheney Brothers Construction, building Burger Kings throughout the Intermountain West. He married Carol Cook in 1980; in 1981, he changed careers and worked for the phone company through its many name changes. Frank retired in March of 2023 and enjoyed many leisurely afternoons watching movies, reading books, taking naps, puzzling, and playing solitaire.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Harlow and LaRue Cheney, and his younger sister, Sally Cheney. He is survived by his wife, Carol Cook Cheney, daughter Alexis Cheney (Brian Rands), son Nicholas Cheney, sister Pati Reid (Brent), sister Melanie Metzger (Rick), and Long Legs (the cat).
Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Hillcrest 4th Ward, 8735 Harvard Park Drive, Sandy, UT 84094, at 11 am, with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am. Graveside services will be held at the Sandy City Cemetery.
