Harry Nils Bergstrom's Obituary
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away suddenly on May 13, 2014 in Salt Lake City. Born April 14, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Nils Julius Bergstrom and Bertha Olivia Elizabeth Holm, he married Lela Rae Potts (Lee) on September 3, 1948. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on December 17, 1970. He experienced humble beginnings in Salt Lake. Enlisting at 17, Harry proudly served as a Marine during World War II in islands of the South Pacific, the Philippines, and China. This life-changing experience nurtured his desire to return home and continue his education. Majoring in marketing, he graduated from the University of Utah in 1950. His business career involved sales, credit, and management positions with Sandvik Steel, General Electric, Reynolds Aluminum and Alside Supply, as well as owning Bergstrom Furniture and Appliance Co. in Salt Lake. The recipient of sales honors including National Salesman of the Year for Alside, he never asked a customer to buy any of his products. Rather, he became a true friend to each of them, and they would ask him to sell them his products. Many remain his good friends. Harry’s favorite pastimes included golfing, woodworking, fishing, boating, tennis and RV-ing in all 50 states. Harry loved the Lord and enjoyed serving as a counselor in three Bishoprics, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, and member of the Stake High Council. He is survived by his wife, Lee, son Steven C. (Lori), daughters Christine Armstrong (Darrel), and Terri Tyler; 12 grandchildren: James T. (Sadie), Ryan (Scharee), Bret (Caitlyn), and Tony (Jessica) Bergstrom; Matthew (Mandy), Daniel (Tiffany), Adam and Christopher Armstrong and April Clark (Chase); Michael Johnson, Katie (Randall) Wessman, and Lindsay Kunz; 22 great-grandchildren, 5 half-brothers, 2 half-sisters, a host of friends, and a number of younger men who consider him as a second father. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the East Mill Creek Stake Center, 3103 East Craig Drive (3600 South), Salt Lake City, Utah with a viewing at the church 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 and Saturday prior to services from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. The family would like to thank friends, neighbors, and the caring staff of the VA Hospital for their special support. “God be with you ‘til we meet again.”
