Harry Feight McKinley Sr.'s Obituary
Harry Feight McKinley, Sr., age 90, born January 20, 1934, a resident of Provo, Utah, and formerly of Bedford, Pennsylvania, passed from this life on July 1, 2024. He had been living at Ashford Memory Center in Springville, Utah, for the past eleven months.
Harry’s wife of 68 years, Ida Mae Fisher McKinley, survives. They were married on June 9. 1956, in the United Methodist Church in Bedford, Pennsylvania, and sealed for time and eternity in 1976 in the Washington, D.C, temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Preceding Harry in death were his father, William R. McKinley, Sr., his mother, Ruie Feight McKinley, and two brothers, Dale and William. Surviving children and their spouses are: Susan Kay McKinley Anderson and husband, Keith D. Anderson, of Provo, Utah; and Harry Feight (Scott) McKinley, Jr. and wife, Karen Elyse Fjeldsted McKinley of Beaufort, South Carolina. Harry and Ida also have 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren .
Harry is a graduate of Bedford High School (1951), Lock Haven State Teachers College (1955), and Pennsylvania State University. He coached basketball and baseball at Claysburg, Hyndman, and Bedford, Pennsylvania. After moving to Utah in 1979, he taught American History as an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University.
In 1960, Harry was elected as Register of Wills and Recorder of Deeds in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, an office he held for 16 years. He was also employed as golf professional at River’s Bend (Down River) Country Club for several years in the late 70’s. Harry was proud of having passed his professional Golf playing test at the Bedford Springs Hotel and Country Club golf course in the mid-1970’s, where he had worked every summer through high school and college. Harry has remained an avid golfer, with a keen interest in politics. He and his wife enjoyed twenty winter seasons in Florida. He also has enjoyed walking at the Mall, and in watching the BYU Cougars, the Utah Jazz, and the Colorado Rockies.
After retirement in 2000, Harry and Ida served a year as missionary hosts and schedulers at the Provo Tabernacle. Then in 1979-80 they served as missionaries in the Pennsylvania Philadelphia Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint’s Genealogical Society. Harry has served in a variety of Church callings, including Branch President and gospel doctrine teacher. He loves reading scriptures.
Harry’s kindness, gentleness, sense of humor, and his friendly smile are traits that will be remembered by his family and friends. Harry’s preferred charity is Habitat for Humanity. Visitation at the Church will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, and Monday at 10 a.m. The formal celebration of his life will be held at the Grandview 9th Ward chapel on 1551 North 1350 West, Provo, Utah, on Monday, July 8, at 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend the service in person, the family has made available a Zoom broadcast: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84559870750
