Heidi Merrell's Obituary
On March 18, 2024, Heidi Merrell, also known as Wife, Mom, Grandma, and most affectionately, Cookie Mom Heidi, peacefully passed surrounded by loved ones.
Heidi was born on March 7, 1953, to German immigrants Rudolf and Marianne Nolte in Clearfield, Utah. Heidi soon became a big sister to Frank, Harold, Perry and Patty before moving to the Brickyard area of Salt Lake City. There Jeffrey joined the family and they all lived happily in the area where Heidi thrived meeting many great friends and building lifelong relationships. She spent time taking care of her siblings and hung out with all of her friends from school and church. They all stuck together enjoying life, and her well known cooking and baking skills. Among these friends was her future husband Robert Merrell who she fell in love with and married on September 28, 1977.
Heidi found joy in hosting parties where she loved to cook and spend time with family and friends. She enjoyed time at the lake with wave runners, baking, and yelling at the tv during the Utah Jazz games. She loved to watch the lightning whenever a thunderstorm rolled into town. If you came by to visit it wouldn’t be unusual to see her watering the plants at 2 in the morning; obviously she was NOT a morning person. When birthdays or holidays would come around, you wouldn’t get a store-bought card. You would get a card that was thoughtful and beautifully handmade. Each card always personally designed and paired with a quote about chocolate on the back. It was a special day when you got a card and a box in the mail, because that meant there were cookies! “Cookie Mom Heidi” really infamous among family and friends because that’s how so many knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband Robert, her children, Mindi Niebuhr (Patrick) and Rob (Brighton), her grandchildren Katelyn, Maddie, and Noah, siblings: Frank, Harold, Perry, Patty, and Jeff.
Heidi will be sorely missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
