Helen Marie Hurst's Obituary
Helen Marie Hurst
1943 – 2023
On Sunday January 8, 2023, Helen M. Windsheimer-Stover Hurst passed away peacefully with her son, Robert L. Stover Jr., daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Stover, and granddaughter, Shelly Ryan-Truelson by her side.
Helen was born on February 28th, 1943, and is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Ruth and her husband, Robert L. Stover Sr.
Helen is survived by her son, Robert L. Stover Jr and his wife Mary Beth Stover. Her daughter, Sharon Gooderl, wife of the late Dan Gooderl. Another daughter, Bonnie Preaux. Eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, as well as her loving and faithful feline companion, Miss Kitty.
Helen also leaves behind her dear friend of fifteen years, Sgt. Doug Robinson (Ret.) of the Hahira, GA Police Department. Doug, we will be forever grateful for your help in reconnecting us with our mom.
Helen’s family would like to give their sincerest thanks to the staff at Truewood by Merrill Memory Care in Bountiful, Utah as well as the staff at Applewood Hospice in Ogden, Utah. The family would also like to give an incredibly special thank you for the excellent care given to mom by Cindy Duke Hazelwood. We love you.
If there is one thing to be grateful for in these trying times, it is that the last few years of Helen’s life were spent doing activities with her family. Many of them things which she had never previously experienced. These things included attending a renowned tulip festival. Having picnics in the picturesque mountain ranges of Utah. A weekend camping trip and making her favorite s’mores over a fire. Going to dinner and the movies or stage productions, which included a live version of The Wizard of Oz. Helen also enjoyed trips to the local aquarium, science center, and backyard barbecues at the home of Bob & Mary Beth. But the thing Helen most loved was to enjoy holiday dinners with her family and loved ones. She truly lived for these moments and always looked forward to the next one.
The family would like to acknowledge that without Sgt. Doug Robinson’s willingness to go above and beyond his duties as a police officer, and willingness to assist with reconnecting Helen with her family that these cherished moments may have never been possible. For that we are extremely thankful.
We are asking that if you wish to honor Helen’s memory that perhaps the next time you encounter someone in emergency services, whether it be police, fire, Medic/EMT, or any other valuable members of our community services, that you thank them for their work and maybe buy them a cup of coffee. Helen was always ready with a pot of coffee and an open door for those men & women who served our community, and we believe she would appreciate her friends, family, and loved ones participating in this simple but heartfelt gesture.
