I have lost a very dear lady, my Grandmother. I am so blessed to have had her in my life. Even though distance separated us, and I neglected to call or write, I always knew she was there cheering me on to do my best, to be kind to others, to hold my harsh words. Although we didn’t share the same faith, her dedication to hers has been inspiring. I have so many fond memories. There was a special Easter dress she made for me, the night of the tornado, her trailer home and the candy dish with lemon drops, a day at zoo with just me, a shared banana split at Baskin Robbins, her little red Ford Maverick. Forever in my memory is the letter I sent her which she returned corrected, Grandma the ever vigilante teacher. Another memory for me was my trip with my parents to Coeur d’Alene to pick up G’ma for the family reunion at Uncle Bob’s in WA. And then the family reunion in OR and this time Colin (age 8) came along. He is Helen’s first great grandson. Frustrated because every time he used “grandma” both women answered, he told his great grandma from that point on she was Grandma Deary, because she is so dear. It fit so well. Grandma will always be so dear to me. I thank God for her and her gifts. I know she is with her Winston and at peace.
