Helen Louise Root-Bagshaw's Obituary
Helen Louise Root–Bagshaw
October 1st 1943 – November 10th 2023
The matriarch of our family, Helen Louise Root–Bagshaw, loving mother, grandmother, gigi, and friend, peacefully crossed over to her new heavenly home on November 10th 2023, reuniting with her parents and her dog shadow in the comfort of her home in Roy Utah surrounded by loved ones.
Helen was born in Salt Lake City UT to Beryl Ruby Gardner and Emerson Randall Root on October 1st 1943. 5 years later she was blessed with her baby brother Michael Gardner Root. She grew up in the town of Roosevelt UT where she spent most of her time playing with her cousins and spending time at her grandparents’ house, Orrin and Laura Gardner in Hayden UT.
As a single mother providing for her 4 children, she wore many hats in the work positions she took on from working at O.C. Tanner, waitressing, customer service at Kmart, and spent the last 15 years working in the bakery at Dicks Market in Centerville. She was the hardest worker and always made sure her family was taken care of. She had a charismatic personality and contagious smile which gained her many friendships through these years, all that she cherished dearly.
She loved to sit outside and watch the birds while sipping a cup of coffee or crocheting alongside listening to her Glen Beck talk shows as a past time. Her most favorite thing though was to be surrounded by her 17 grandkids and 15 great grandkids. She had so much love for them, in almost every conversation she had she’d brag about their many achievements. She was their number one supporter in all they did, and they knew it. She lived for the family gatherings and truly cherished seeing her whole family together.
In July of this year, she was diagnosed with a rare and extremely aggressive type of cancer which spread quickly. Although a tough battle, Helen fought till the end and made sure she would be remembered as a warrior who gave it her all. In the end the cancer won but that does not dimmish just how strong and courageous this amazing woman was.
This is not a goodbye but simply a see you later. We love you Mom, Grandma, Gigi!
She is survived by her brother; Michael (Susan) Root, and her 4 kids; Susan Bagshaw, Michelle (Dominnick) Spainhower, Lisa (Kevin) Flinn, Joey Shields, and her little poodle Toby Grahm Pom Pom.
We would like to recognize a special thank you to the Staff at Valeo Home Health and Hospice and her amazing nurse Kristi for helping keep our sweet angel comfortable in her last days with us.
