I have been Enrique's friend for 25 years.
He went to do a postdoc at UCLA and one day he told me that he was dating a great girl.
We organized a Skype call and I talked a little with Helene.
She was nice and spoke Spanish with a beautiful French accent (I am sure all his Mexican friends loved how she spoke our language with our favorite expressions).
Several months passed, after that first skype call, and Enrique told me that he would go with Helene to Paris for Christmas.
At that time I was living there and I accompanied them on a walk to enjoy the city.
At the end of the day, I remember perfectly what I said to Enrique: “You have to marry this woman! She's gorgeous, smart, loving, kind and adores you and Mexico”.
And Enrique answered: “I know, and that's why I already brought the ring to ask her to marry me before we go back to California”. It was a pleasant surprise for her because she didn't expect it.
Since that occasion, Helene and I made a deep connection and I met her a couple of times in Paris the following year.
They had a beautiful first wedding in California.
For their second wedding in France, Helene arrived few days before the event and we went together to look for her new wedding dress. She was already pregnant with Luna.
We had a lot of fun!
I remember that she constantly was telling me: “I already want Enrique to arrive”.
I've never seen a bride more in love on her wedding day.
She was radiant.
You could feel her fullness, celebrating her marriage with her family and beloved friends touching her belly with so much love.
I can share with you that in the following years I had a very close relationship with Helene.
We were exchanging very frequent texts and calls, much more than with Enrique, I must admit. However, I am certain that he knows that my bond with Helene was special.
In 2021, I visited them in Salt Lake City.
We spent a wonderful time together and our relationship was strengthened.
Helene and I had a secret code of friendship.
We loved rainbows and every time we saw one, we took a photo and exchanged it, right away.
I wish you can think of Helene every time that you see a rainbow.
With enough silence inside, I am sure that you even will be able to hear her voice telling you our secret code:
“I am thinking of you. Divinity smiles at you. Remember that you are as magical and special as this rainbow”.

Con mi esposa Nuria, conocimos a Hélène y Enrique en Los Ángeles, mientras los 4 dábamos los primeros pasos para formar nuestras respectivas familias. Recordar a Hélène es recordar una época muy bonita. Una época de sembrar, de soñar, de descubrir cosas nuevas y de caminar juntos hacia la incertidumbre del futuro. Pienso, y recuerdo su amabilidad y su preocupación genuina por quienes estaban a su lado. Siempre con una sonrisa en el rostro y la cualidad - en todo su ser - que tienen las personas que se fácilmente se convierten en los mejores amigos, las
mejores madres, esposa e hija, como
lo fue ella. Me causa tristeza pensar que su paso por aquí fue un poco más corto que el nuestro, pero me da alegría pensar que lo vivió con plenitud. Su presencia se mantiene en las
lindas memorias de todo lo compartido, en cada aspecto de su preciosa hija y el inmenso amor que Enrique y su familia tienen por ella. Mucha fuerza y amor a Enrique y Luna. Un abrazo a la distancia, hasta que nos lo podamos dar en persona. Creo que a Hélène le habría encantado que nuestras hijas finalmente se conozcan, y sean amigas. Sería una linda forma de recordarla.
I feel blessed to have been able to know Hélène and call her my friend. The last time that I saw her was during Covid on Santa Monica beach which was near the same area that she was married to Enrique. She was such a beautiful soul in this world. I feel grateful that our paths crossed in LA. She made me a better person. One gift she gave me was the book, “the power of now” by Eckhart Tolle. “All we ever have is now. “ She taught me to live in the moment and get up with the dawn. Embrace each sunrise and sunset. I will miss her greatly! I wish her family and other friends comfort during this difficult time.

Depuis notre première rencontre, il me faisait toujours du bien de bavarder avec toi en regardant nos petits enfants jouer dans la cour de leur école. Tu étais toujours très gentille et accueillante envers moi. Ce beau petit souvenir, je le garderai toujours dans ma mémoire.

Conocí a Helene en Los Angeles cuando las dos estudiábamos en UCLA, nos conocimos dando la prueba de inglés y nos hicimos muy amigas desde ese instante. Helene tenía esa facilidad de hacer amigos verdaderos y transformarlos en su familia y sé que fue así por cada lugar por el que pasó. Fue mi mejor amiga durante nuestro tiempo en LA, me duele mucho su partida tan temprana, Helene era maravillosa tenia una calidez innata y siempre alegre, siempre positiva y siempre bonita. Pienso mucho en Enrique y su pequeña niña, espero que nuestros caminos se crucen otra vez, se que ella estará con ustedes desde donde esté. Un abrazo a su familia que sepan que todos a quienes tuvimos la suerte de conocerla la queríamos mucho, un abrazo en especial a su hermana a quien conocí en LA. Enrique un abrazo muy sentido para ti y la pequeña Luna y toda la luz y esperanza para ustedes.
