All patients are special, but some inadvertently become "mo special". John McGrath will always be that special patient to me and I am grateful for the opportunity to have learned and been entertained so much by him. From his Brooklyn accent, his earnest dedication to volunteerism within the HELP program at the University of Utah, to the poetry he recommended and his youthful sense of humor and fun; all these attributes will always be with me. He deserves to be pain-free and in peace. We will all just miss him til we meet again.
Best wishes, Lillian
Very sorry to hear of Johns passing. We had some great times in the Emergency Dept after he heard my Irish accent and would hang out with me for every shift he was volunteering! He had some incredible stories and was always great fun to be around. He absolutely loved his family and always talked about his kids and grandkids and how proud he was of them.
I remember him trying to hypnotize me in order to help me quit smoking, I told him half way through to stop so I could go have a smoke, which we cracked up at. I have since quit!
So long Sean (I always refused to call him John). I hope I get to meet up with you again someday mo chara
