Ida Rowena Bowers Kenyon's Obituary
Ida Rowena Bowers Kenyon (7 September1937 -13 February 2025
Rowena, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints passed away peacefully at home on 13 February 2025. She is survived by her two children, Brooke (Ron) Shaw and Jason (Kendra) Kenyon, her cherished grandchildren Darby, Josh, Shannon Dilleshaw, Max Kenyon, Jennifer (Dan) Herzog, Luke, and Aspen Shaw as well as her great grandchildren Sydney, Sawyer, Caraline, Madison, Rylee, Pippin and Zaliyah.
Rowena was born to Louis James Jr. and Ida Lucille (Clark) Bowers on 7 September 1937. She had two brothers, James and Robert, whom she deeply loved and admired. We are comforted by the knowledge that at her passing she had a joyful reunion with her parents and brothers.
She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Paris, France. While on her mission she made a lifelong friend, Claudine Saville, who she considered a sister. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found great joy in reading the Book of Mormon, which she read multiple times each year.
Professionally, Rowena held several positions as an executive assistant/office Manager. Perhaps, her most rewarding work came in her position as the assistant to Mr. Richard L. Warner (Rick Warner Ford), where she made numerous contacts and was deeply appreciated by her colleagues. She was always known for her competence and dedication to her work.
Rowena was an avid reader. Her children fondly remember her spending many evenings and weekends reading in her chair. She was a gifted pianist. In response to a challenge from her father, she memorized and performed Piano Sonata No. 23 (the Apassionata). Her musical talents did not end there, she also sang in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir prior to her mission. She was a skilled baker-her pies and quiche were family favorites.
Rowena’s legacy of unconditional love and faith will be remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
A viewing will be held at the Greenoaks Ward Building (932 Greenoaks Dr., Murray, UT 84123) from 9am to 10am on Thursday, the 20 February, followed by a brief graveside service at the Salt Lake City Cemetery at 11 am. All are welcome to join the family in a celebration of life at the Greenoaks Ward at 1 pm.
