Ina Frandsen Midgley's Obituary
Ina Frandsen Midgley, 93, passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 8, 2023. She was born on July 30th 1930 to Peter Lafayette and Ida Larsen Frandsen in Clarion, Utah.
Ina was the youngest of seven children and grew up on a farm six miles from Gunnison, Utah. There she learned the value of hard work, honesty, integrity and perseverance. She recognized and was eternally grateful for the sacrifices her parents made to ensure she and her siblings could receive an education and training in music to enrich their lives. In the 8th grade Ina was asked to be the Ward Organist, and held that position until she was 18. While in High School she participated in many extra curricular activities including being a Student Body Officer her Sophomore and Junior years, and Student Body Vice President her Senior year.
After graduation from Gunnison Valley High in 1948, she went to Brigham Young University to pursue a Bachelors Degree. Although those four years were full of many demanding tasks, she enjoyed her studies. While there she gained her testimony and further strengthened her faith as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Following graduation from BYU in 1952, she worked in Salt Lake City for a year, then went to New York City to help her sister Louise with a new baby for 15 months.
In 1955 Ina was called from her Manhattan Ward to serve a mission in California, a calling she felt was a direct answer to prayer. After her mission she stayed in the Los Angeles area and again served as the Ward Organist. During the Christmas holiday of 1956 she first met Duane. The two married a few years later at the Los Angeles Temple on December 23, 1961. A short time later Ina had the challenging yet rewarding call as the Relief Society President. Ina and Duane received three wonderful and beautiful children; David in February 1963, Susan in April 1964, and Teresa in August 1966 in what Ina felt was a direct result of this calling. After initially settling and buying their first home in Sun Valley California in 1964, Ina and Duane decided to move back to Salt Lake City in the Spring of 1969 to raise their family.
Ina is reunited with her parents; Brothers: Allen, Ivan and Ray Frandsen; Sisters: Edna Bjerregard, Marian Christenson, and Louise Pratt; Husband Duane Midgley; and great granddaughter Hayden Butler.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children David L Midgley (Dana), Susan Smithwick, Teresa Short (Darren), eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, Sisters-in-law; Helen Jane Midgley, Lois Hutchins, many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
The family would like to offer our sincere gratitude to the staff, CNA’s and Nurses at Sandstone of Holladay, Suncrest Hospice for their care and the Holliday 24th ward for their contributions.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 20th at 11am in the Holladay 24th ward, 4395 South Albright Drive. Where friends and family may also call Tuesday evening September 19th from 6-8 pm and September 20th 9:30-10:30. Burial will be at Elysian Burial Gardens 1075 East 4580 South.
