Ira Floyd Armstrong's Obituary
On November 6th, 2020 Ira Floyd Armstrong passed away in his sleep at the age of 97. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He was born on September 20, 1923 to Albert William Armstrong and Virgie Lee Ethington at their home in Kentucky. He was the fifth child of six children. When Ira was in his early teens his family moved to Arizona where he lived until he joined the Marines right after he graduated from Chandler High School. While in the Marines his family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he lived until his passing. Shortly after being discharged from the Marines he met Maxine Bowler and they quickly fell in love and married in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were blessed with a son, Frank, and a daughter, Becky.
Most of his career was spent working at Kennecott in the refinery as an inspector. Anyone who knew Ira knew he loved fishing, hunting, sports and teasing those around him. Family was always important to him and he always made sure there was time to spend with them. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions over the years.
He is survived by his son, Franklin Ira Armstrong (Jill); his daughter Rebecca Lee Bingham (Elton); 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 1 brother and his beloved wife, Maxine.
Because of the pandemic and current state restrictions, there will not be a public memorial service. If you wish to send flowers, send them to the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
A special thanks goes to the people at the Sunridge Assisted Living Center and AFI Hospice Services for their loving care in making him comfortable in his last few years.
