Irene Marie Peters Rodon's Obituary
Irene Marie Peters Rodon
June 22, 1933 - March 13, 2019
Irene Marie Peters was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on June 22, 1933. She was the fifth of eight children of Lionel Arthur Peters and Regina Gladys Harrer.
Irene had a great interest in medicine and helping others.
She pursued a career in nursing. She had great admiration for the nuns who taught nursing skills and decided to pursue her nursing career as a nun where she served faithfully for 15 years. After leaving the order, Irene met her husband Gerardo Rodon. They were married in 1969 and spent many happy years together.
Irene continued in Nursing at Saddleback Hospital in Laguna Hills California. After her retirement, she lovingly cared for her husband Gerardo until he passed away in August 2016.
As her health was in decline and with need for increased assistance, Irene moved to Orem Utah, where she lived at The Seville, and the Summerfield Manor. While there, she made many wonderful friends, and enjoyed incredible care. She was always so grateful for her new life in the Rocky Mountains and those caring for her. She was always smiling, and would engage everyone in conversations. While residing at the Seville, her table of ladies became known as the “Sunshine Girls” because they all radiated such light and enjoyment of life every day. They very much enjoyed the close friendship they had developed. Irene took on the role of “resident nurse” freely sharing her medical wisdom and good sense while reaching out to serve anyone she determined had a need.
Irene had such a positive attitude and loved living life every day. Many are the friends and neighbors grew to appreciate her for reaching out and encouraging them each day. Wherever Irene resided, she was a light to all. She was always up for a lunch out or an adventure and was looking forward to a trip to Yellowstone National Park this summer.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Gerardo Rodon, and by her older sister Jeanie Marie Peters, her younger sister Valery Marie Peters (Morton), also by older brothers Arthur Joseph Peters, Frederick Joseph Peters, and Roman Adrian Peters.
Irene is survived by her twin brother Eugene Joseph Peters, Santa Ana California, her younger brother Jerome Joseph Peters, San Diego California, and by several nieces and nephews.
Those who knew and loved Irene will miss her engaging smile, her friendly greetings, her timely medical wisdom and advice, and most of all her warm and caring attitude.
Goodnight Irene!
